Expect slightly cooler weather on Easter Monday, Observatory says

  • Mercury set to fall to 17 degrees, with slight breeze, and the swing between day and night temperatures significant for rest of week

Hong Kong should brace for significantly cooler weather on Easter Monday with the temperature expected to drop to 17 degrees Celsius, the Observatory said.

The maximum temperature recorded at the meteorological headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui on Sunday was 25.6 degrees.

The coming drop was mainly due to the influence of a dry continental airstream behind a cold front that swept across Hong Kong on Saturday, which would bring cool, fine weather for the southern region for the next few days, the Observatory said.

Monday is expected to be very dry, with north to northeast winds ranging between 31 and 40km/h in mean speed.

Over the coming days, the weather is expected to remain fine, but the temperature swing between day and night relatively large.

Looking at the week ahead, the daily minimum temperature is forecast to gradually rise to 22 degrees by Sunday, while the daily maximum will rise to 26 degrees on Thursday and remain there until early next week.

According to Observatory statistics going back to 1885, the lowest monthly minimum temperature recorded in April was 9.9 degrees in 1969, while the mercury fell to 12.3 degrees for the same month in 2007.
