A young girl died instantly in a road traffic accident in Hong Kong around lunchtime on Friday.

The four-year-old and the car collided on Clear Water Bay Road near Pak Shek Wo Village in Sai Kung, soon after 1pm, according to police.

A police spokesman said the girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver, 56, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The section of the road has been closed to traffic as police investigate the cause of the incident. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact officers on 2305-7500 or 2305-7570.

Separately, a car mounted a pavement and hit three passers-by – two women and one man – at the junction of Lok Yeung Street and Aberdeen Main Road in Aberdeen shortly before Noon.

The 19-year-old man was treated at the scene, while the two women, aged 37 and 43, were treated for minor injuries at Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam.

Police said the 43-year-old female driver was unhurt, passed a breathalyser test, and had not been arrested.
