Amina Bokhary, niece of top Hong Kong judge, wanted by police for skipping bail hearing

  • ‘We have already put her on the wanted list,’ police source says

A Hong Kong woman whose family name and past brushes with the law have given her citywide notoriety is in trouble again, this time for skipping out on a bail hearing, the Post learned on Thursday.

Amina Mariam Bokhary, the niece of Court of Final Appeal judge Kemal Bokhary, was released on police bail after her arrest on January 31. She was pulled over on King Kwong Street in Happy Valley after a police patrol team saw her car cruising in an erratic manner.

Bokhary was ordered to report to the police on February 15, but a source said she never showed up.

“We have already put her on the wanted list,” the police insider said.

“Once she is picked up, we will immediately take her to the police station, charge her with the offence she originally committed and take her to court.”

The 42-year-old was arrested for driving without a licence and without third-party insurance.

This stemmed from a previous brush with the law in 2010, when she committed another driving offence that caused her licence to be revoked for three years.

Bokhary was required to take a driving course before she could drive again, but never did so, according to police sources.

She drew controversy after the 2010 incident – and even sparked a protest – because she was originally spared jail time for slapping the traffic police officer who stopped her for a breathalyser test after an accident on Stubbs Road, also in Happy Valley.

It was later revealed she had been involved in two earlier assaults on police officers. The public was outraged that she eluded jail time in all three cases.

In 2011, Bokhary was sent to jail for six weeks after she breached five of the seven probation conditions imposed on her by a magistrate in the 2010 assault case, alongside the three-year driving ban.
