Two middle-aged women were found dead in a Kowloon flat on Tuesday night in an apparent double suicide.

Police said they got a call at 11.49pm from a security guard at the building on Pok Man Street, Tai Kok Tsui. She said there was a smell coming from the subdivided apartment and no one responded when she knocked.

Firefighters then broke into the unit and found two women lying on beds. Burnt charcoal was found next to them.

The pair – a 41-year-old surnamed Cheung and a 40-year-old surnamed Ma – were certified dead at the scene.

Police found a suicide note, but said they were awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police listed the case as a suicide after preliminary investigations.
