A Hong Kong truck driver died after his vehicle slammed into an anti-crash barrier and then toppled over in the early hours of Wednesday.

The truck was travelling along Cheung Pei Shan Road in Tsuen Wan shortly before 4am, and police have appealed for witnesses.

“When approaching Tsuen Kam Interchange, the truck reportedly lost control, rammed into crash cushions and then fell on its side,” police said in a statement.

Police said the 38-year-old driver “sustained multiple injuries” and had to be freed by firefighters, but was certified dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 3661 1300 or 3661 1346.

In April last year, a motorcyclist died after a collision between his motorcycle and a truck on the same road.

The latest crash was the third fatal traffic accident this month. On May 4, the 64-year-old driver of a delivery van died following a collision between his vehicle and a minibus in Tai Po.

Two days earlier, an 83-year-old man died after being knocked down by a delivery van in Pau Chung Street, Hung Hom.

Separately, the driver of a seven-seater car and his three passengers were arrested after leading police on a 3km car chase from Kowloon City to Kowloon Bay about 2.30am on Wednesday.

The chase began after police spotted the Honda vehicle travelling in a zigzag manner on Prince Edward Road West in Kowloon City. It sped away when officers tried to intercept it.

The pursuit ended when the car rammed into a police vehicle and then slammed into railings in Fuk To Street near Kowloon Bay MTR station.

No one was injured in the incident, and officers found two meat cleavers inside the vehicle.

Police arrested the 27-year-old driver for offences including dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.

His three passengers, a man, 25, and two girls aged 15 and 17, were arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.
