Rival camps are out on the streets on the 15th weekend of protests in Hong Kong, as each side tries to win over public opinion.
Among the events on Saturday, pro-government groups are targeting and clearing displays of colourful sticky notes, known as Lennon Walls. The murals, which have sprung up across the city in support of the protests, typically include criticism of Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and her administration, plus anti-extradition-bill messages.
Separately, secondary school pupils gathered at Edinburgh Place in Central for a police-approved rally, where they plan to erect a “Lady Liberty” statue.
A battle of the songs will take place at shopping malls, and MTR stations will ring with a mix of the protesters' newest theme song, Glory to Hong Kong, versus the Chinese national anthem sung by pro-Beijing groups.
Another airport “stress test” to disrupt transport links was withdrawn, and earlier, pro-government groups hiked to the top of Hong Kong’s iconic Lion Rock to wave the national flag, only to be stumped by an “Implement genuine universal suffrage" banner left over from Friday’s anti-government activities.
