Stabbed actor Simon Yam Tat-wah discharged from Hong Kong Adventist Hospital after shock attack in Zhongshan

Veteran actor Simon Yam Tat-wah was discharged from a Hong Kong hospital on Wednesday after he was stabbed in mainland China at the weekend.
The 64-year-old suffered injuries to his abdomen and one of his hands when a knifeman rushed the stage of a promotional event the Hong Kong actor was attending on Saturday morning in Zhongshan, Guangdong province.
Yam underwent surgery in a Zhongshan hospital on the same day, and was transferred to Hong Kong Adventist Hospital, a private facility in Happy Valley, later that night.
Dressed in a blue tracksuit and with his right arm in a sling, the award-winning actor and film producer left the city hospital at around 1pm on Wednesday.
“While I was injured from this accident, I would like to thank the health care staff in Zhongshan and Hong Kong,” said Yam, who also expressed gratitude to his management company Emperor Entertainment Group and family.
“It will take a bit more time for my hand to recover ... as it will take time for nerves to recover,” he said.
“I hope I recover soon and resume film shooting, which I really enjoy,” he said.

Zhongshan police on Saturday evening identified the man suspected of assaulting Yam as a 53-year-old local resident surnamed Chen, who they said had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
A fruit knife was used in the attack and the wound to Yam’s abdomen caused minor damage to his internal organs, which surgeons repaired.
Yam, who starred in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – Cradle of Life, was a guest at the opening of a new Beijing Easyhome store in Zhongshan when the assailant struck.
