Wheel flies off moving car and hits Hong Kong woman, 73, outside Choi Hung MTR station

A wheel flew off a seven-seater car and hit a 73-year-old woman in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

The vehicle was travelling along the Kwun Tong-bound section of Lung Cheung Road when the front left wheel came off outside Choi Hung MTR station soon after 8am.

The elderly woman was injured on her chest and arms, according to police.

Emergency personnel carried her into an ambulance on a stretcher with her mouth covered by an oxygen mask and her neck in a brace.

She was taken conscious to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei.

Police said the driver, 38, passed a breathalyser test and no one had been arrested.

Separately, nine people were injured in two traffic accidents in Ma On Shan and Yuen Long within the space of three hours.

Shortly before 8am a car toppled onto its left side after a collision with a KMB double-decker at the junction of Hang Shun Street and A Kung Kok Street in Ma On Shan.

According to police, the female driver of the car, 44, the male bus driver, 51, and a female passenger on the double-decker, 28, were slightly injured. They were taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin.

Soon after 10.30am, a minibus driver and his five passengers were injured in a three-vehicle pile-up in Yuen Long. Two trucks were involved in the incident.

The minibus driver was trapped and had to be freed by emergency personnel. The injured were taken conscious to Tuen Mun Hospital.

Police figures show 118 people died in 99 Hong Kong road accidents in the first 11 months of 2018, including a February bus crash in Tai Po that left 19 dead and more than 60 injured.
