US President Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to dispute a much-repeated report that he prefers staying at his own properties around the country because the White House is “a real dump.”
“I love the White House, one of the most beautiful buildings (homes) I have ever seen,” Trump tweeted, blaming the misunderstanding on “Fake News.”
“TOTALLY UNTRUE,” the president said.
A story that debuted Tuesday on Golf.com (that is also appearing in Sports Illustrated) about the president’s love of the links reported that he told some of his golf buddies of his preference.
Explaining his frequent visit to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump reportedly told several club members: “That White House is a real dump.”
The publication noted that a Trump spokesman denied Trump had made the statement.

Whatever the case, Trump is scheduled to go to Bedminster on Friday for a two-week summer stay.
This is not the first time Trump’s comments about government-owned accommodations have raised eyebrows.
Just before taking office in January, Trump told a journalist that Camp David, the rustic presidential retreat in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains, would be likable “for about 30 minutes.”

After returning to the White House after his first and only trip there in June, Trump responded to a shouted question from a reporter who wanted to know what he thought.
As he walked from Marine One to the White House, Trump offered these words: “incredible”,“beautiful” and “really nice.”

Trump has reportedly enjoyed the perks of living at the prestigious address since January (waiters cater to his preferences with a constant steam of Diet Cokes and two scoops of ice cream for dessert instead of the standard one), and he’s been known to proudly offer tours to VIP visitors.
But he has spent a good deal of time away from the White House, including 21 of his first 26 weekends by CNN’s count, mostly at his luxury Mar-a-lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, where the Versailles-like decor is closer to that of his own Manhattan penthouse in Trump Tower than the historic White House digs.
As in previous administrations, the Trumps hired a private decorator to transform their living quarters, and in accordance with tradition, it’s not usually shared with the public. And he found a way to bring some of the comforts he’s used to to Washington: first lady Melania Trump hired Timothy Harleth, a senior manager at Washington’s Trump International Hotel, to serve as chief usher, overseeing the staff that runs the White House.
