Neymar and Ronaldo appear in bizarre phone commercial in make-believe boxing fight

Portuguese idol Cristiano Ronaldo and Brazilian superstar Neymar are among the world’s most famous footballers with millions of followers in their Instagram and Twitter accounts.
They are also rivals on the pitch: Ronaldo is the five-time Fifa World Footballer of the Year, who inspired Juventus to another Serie A title last season, while embattled Paris St-Germain striker Neymar helped perennial favourites Brazil reach last year’s World Cup quarter-finals.
What if you put the two most gifted footballers of this generation in the ring and have them settle their differences? Well, that’s kind of what happened as the soccer superstars appeared to go mano-a-mano in a video that is going viral.
But relax, the video wasn’t actually a boxing fight but an ad campaign that will be released soon.
A brief clip was uploaded last weekend featuring the pair in boxing shorts, wearing gloves and squaring off in the ring. A beefy referee, some fans and photographers give more life to the make-believe scene.
We are not exactly sure what the ad is promoting but it has something to do with the Portuguese technology company MEO (a subsidiary of the Altice Group).

The company’s website said: “MEO is a brand that revolutionised the telecom market in Portugal. For the first time, a voice service provider will offer TV and internet services, using the next generation optical fibre.”
Again, we’re not sure how this would relate to the product, but in the brief video, which has so far been seen more than 2.6 million times, fans can watch Neymar briefly dancing around the ring, while Ronaldo – who looks like a mini version of Ivan Drago, the fictional Russian giant in Rocky IV – jabs away. Before they get it on, a referee can be seen giving out instructions while Neymar pouts his lips and Ronaldo … well, looks serious.

Twitter users were quick to comment on the video, with many asking who they would back in a real fight.
“Ronaldo of course, Neymar would just roll around the floor clutching his ankle,” said supermac.
“Neymar’s getting dropped,” said Jack Burgess, while DGS said: “Let’s face it Neymar will take a tumble and roll around for so long that he’ll never get to his feet before a 10 count.”

It is understood the ad campaign will be released in the coming weeks and we will find out more who actually wins the fight if there is an outcome.
Now, if we could get Argentine great Lionel Messi and former England star Wayne Rooney in the ring as well, we could see tag wrestling at its finest.
