The napkin used to pen Lionel Messi’s first contract with Barcelona has sold at auction for £762,400 (HK$7.6 million).
Signed in blue ink, the napkin was used in December 2000 by then Barca director Charley Rexach to sign a 13-year-old Messi.
Also present are the signatures of Josep Minguella, a transfer adviser for the La Liga giants and agent Horacio Gaggioli.
The napkin had belonged to Gaggioli, who put it up for auction at London-based company Bonhams with a starting price of £300,000.
Messi joined Barcelona a month later and left in 2021 with a legacy that has seen him considered by many to be the greatest footballer in history.

He made his first-team debut in 2004 at the age of 17 and was part of a side which won their first league title in six years.
They retained it the following year and added a Champions League crown, but it was with the arrival of Pep Guardiola as manager in 2008 that the Argentina captain’s performance went up a notch.
He hit 38 goals across all competitions as Barca won the Treble which led to the first of four consecutive Ballon d’Or awards.
In the 2011-12 season, he scored a staggering 73 goals in all competitions and broke the world record for most goals in a calendar year in 2012 with 91 for Barcelona and Argentina.
In 2021, he left the club to join Paris Saint-Germain after winning 10 La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup seven times apiece, the Champions League on four occasions, as well as the Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup three times each.
On an individual level, he won the Ballon d’Or a record six times – later extending that to eight as he subsequently won the Copa America and later World Cup with Argentina.
Now at Inter Miami, he is Barcelona’s all-time top goal scorer with 672 goals and his total of 778 appearances is also the most in the club’s history.
