Japan will take a slender one-shot lead into the final day of an enthralling Queen Sirikit Cup in Singapore, with New Zealand all that stands between them and a first title in more than 20 years.
In the individual competition of the Asia-Pacific Ladies Team Golf Championship, the host nation’s Shannon Tan lit up Thursday’s third round as she moved into a tie for second alongside Kiwi Vivian Lu.
The pair both shot four-under-par 68s to move to eight-under for the tournament, while overnight leader Mizuki Hashimoto’s even-par 72 kept her two shots ahead of the chasing pack.
Lu’s efforts helped the Kiwis finish on 14-under, just behind Japan with only Friday’s round to play at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.
Hong Kong remain 10th on 20-over after another day of mixed fortunes for Chloe Chan Cheuk-yee, Arianna Lau and Iris Wang Xin-yi.
Chan again led the way for Hong Kong, carding a solid one-over 73 to finish tied for 19th at six-over for the tournament. Arianna Lau sits tied for 29th at 16-over, while Wang ended her penultimate round tied for 33rd at 20-over.
