The Hong Kong camp is hopeful of even more medals after swimmer Tang Wai-lok claimed a first gold for the SAR at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
On the running track, sprinter Yam Kwok-fan set a personal best in the women’s 200 metres (T36) to reach the final. The 19-year-old, who also reached the 100 metres final and finished in eighth place, clocked 34.73 seconds in her heat which was won by Yanina Martinez of Argentina in 30.80, the fastest time among the heats.
In wheelchair fencing, both Cheong Meng-chai and Chan Wing-kin were unable to proceed to the knockout stage in the men’s individual sabre (category A).
Hong Kong will mount a serious medal challenge when the women’s wheelchair fencing kicks off at the Carioca Arena 3. Seven-time Paralympic gold medallist Yu Chui-yee will be defending her title in the individual epee (category A), while Chan Yui-chong, a bronze medallist at the London Paralympics in the same event of category B, will also kick off her campaign.

Rider Natasha Tse Pui-ting scored 66.261 points in the opening team test (grade 1A) at the Olympic Equestrian Centre and the result will be combined with the individual test on Thursday to decide if she can reach the final of the individual freestyle test.
