Teenage Hong Kong amateurs Yue Hin-ho and Isaac Lam survived a gruelling eight-man play-off to eventually earn a place in the field for this week’s PGA Tour China Series Clearwater Bay Open.

With 10 places on offer, the pair finished tied for seventh in Monday’s single round qualifier at Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club after carding rounds of two-over-par.

Yue ,16, and Lam, 17, then earned their places in the 120-man field with pars at the third play-off hole along with Chinese amateur Xing Yixin.

And Thailand’s Komsith Huachai claimed the final place on offer two holes later.

American Garrett Sapp topped the qualifying leaderboard after a five-under-par 65 to automatically earn his place in the November 3-6 Ұ1.2 million (HK$1.4m) tournament alongside compatriots Alvin Cheung and Thomas Johnson, Malaysia’s Muhammad Arie Irawan Ahmad Fauzi, Ireland’s Brian O’Donovan and Australia’s Nathan Goulding.

“It is indescribable. These three holes are the three most fun holes I have ever had, it was nervous and it was fun. It was the longest three holes I have played in my life,” said Yue, who also qualified for December’s Hong Kong Open in a play-off at Fanling last month.
