Angus Ng Ka-long seals historic men’s singles title at Hong Kong Open
The 22-year-old youngster becomes the first male winner in the 30-plus year-old tournament after he defeats India’s Sameer Verma 21-14, 10-21, 21-11

Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka-long played a beautifully placed shot at the back of the court, out of the reach of India’s Sameer Verma before sinking to his knees as he made history at the US$400,000 Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open on Sunday afternoon.
The 22-year-old Ng ran hot as he defeated the Indian star 21-14, 10-21, 21-11, winning on his first match point to lift his biggest title of his career.
It was Ng’s first superseries title victory too and it made up for all the near misses he experienced this year on tour, where he reached two superseries semi-finals, without breaking through.
The Hong Kong Open has sealed his legacy and this time, he more than made a breakthrough, he also became the first Hong Kong male singles winner in the 30-plus year-old history of the prestigious tournament, now part of the superseries.
The previous day, he became the first Hong Kong male player to reach the semi-finals after defeating compatriot Hu Yun.
