Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards seem to be the main two names in the frame to next fight Kamaru Usman. But if the UFC welterweight champion could pick his ideal opponent, there’s a different name on his mind.

“Honestly, I’m an equal opportunities kind of guy. But if I had to choose, of course I want Georges St-Pierre,” Usman told TMZ Sports.

Usman underlined his status as the best welterweight in the game with a dramatic fifth-round TKO of Colby Covington at UFC 245 in Las Vegas last weekend.

But now he wants to test himself against the man considered the greatest welterweight of all time.

“I want GSP. One more win and I tie him for the most consecutive wins [in the UFC]. How sweet would that be to actually get that win off of him?”

Usman (16-1) is on an 11-fight win streak in the UFC, having claimed the 170-pounds title from Tyron Woodley in March. St-Pierre (26-2) hung up his gloves last year for the second time after coming out of retirement to win the middleweight title.

The Canadian admitted his frustrations after the UFC were seemingly unwilling to book a dream match-up against lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, a fight he is still calling for. But Usman thinks he could take the legendary 38-year-old.

“That would be an extremely exciting fight because I think we are the two hybrids of the welterweight division, since it’s been going on,” Usman said.

“When he came on the scene he could do it all – systematically break guys down to make the fight look easy. I just think I’m a better level of that.

“I’ve got the power, cardio, strength and speed. I think it’s a big, big, big fight. All due respect to Georges, but I think I finish him.”
