UFC: Jorge Masvidal rips Nate Diaz for comments after fight – ‘they don’t sit well with me’

  • ‘Calling me a quitter … that’s a hard sell,’ Masvidal says – ‘I’ve got nothing nice to say about him’
  • ‘Tell me how long you need for your knee to be right so you can run 38 miles every day’

Considering it was for the title of “baddest {expletive} in the game”, the build-up to Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 was surprisingly good natured.

But things could be a little spicier if Diaz gets a rematch for Masvidal’s “BMF” belt.

“Gamebred” ripped into Diaz, saying some of his comments since their Madison Square Garden main event “don’t sit well” with him.

“He knows what he’s doing, he’s trying to bait me in for a rematch,” Masvidal told FanSided’s Mark Carman. “There’s no need for him to say it, because it doesn’t matter who I fight next – when he gets his face reconstruction and he gets whatever he needs done, and he agrees on the next pay cheque, we’re gonna do it again.”

Masvidal won on a medical stoppage after the cage-side doctor ruled that Diaz could not continue for the fourth round, because of two bad cuts around his eye.

Diaz claimed he was about to come into his own in the fourth and fifth rounds, as is his style, and that he sensed Masvidal was gassing out and thinking about quitting.

“I don’t see how he can possibly say I was quitting at some point, or ‘this is where he thought about quitting’,” Masvidal added. “That’s a hard sell, my brother. Who you selling that to? Not even casuals will purchase that s***.

“If you know me, you’ll know just my nickname alone dictates I’m not gonna back away from pain or fatigue. I’m just gonna keep fighting. Especially just having the lead like that, I was just gonna give it up for him?

“So him calling me a quitter, saying I’m gonna quit, that s*** doesn’t sit well with me at all. I got nothing nice to say about that individual right now, so I’m not gonna say too much.”

Diaz also claimed after the fight he had been hampered by a knee injury suffered in training camp that hindered his running.

“Nate, when the time comes, just sign the f****** contract. Tell me how long you need for your knee to be right so you can run 38 miles every day and all that stuff,” Masvidal said.

“You pick the date, you pick the city. Let the company form it up. I’ll show up there and kick your ass again.”
