UFC: Jorge Masvidal shuts down Kamaru Usman with clever video – ‘that’s who’

  • Usman tries to pretend he doesn’t know who Masvidal is after being asked if he wants to fight him
  • But ‘Gamebred’ has receipts of UFC welterweight champion publicly praising him in the past

Kamaru Usman may want to think twice the next time he tries to pretend he doesn’t know who Jorge Masvidal is.

The UFC welterweight champion twice responded “who?” when asked whether he wanted to fight “Gamebred” next after successfully defending his title against Colby Covington at UFC 245, once in the post-event press conference and another on the ESPN+ post show.

It’s certainly a pretty hard sell, given Masvidal’s rise to superstardom in the UFC this year.

He’s had highlight reel knockouts of Darren Till and Ben Askren, and won the “BMF” belt after beating Nate Diaz in their high-profile UFC 244 main event at Madison Square Garden.

In fact it was Usman and Covington who got bumped from the New York card to Las Vegas on December 14, with the UFC seeing more money in Masvidal and Diaz.

But it’s especially not a good idea to try and feign ignorance of Masvidal when you’ve publicly praised him on multiple occasions by name.

Indeed, Masvidal’s social media team put together a clever video of a few such instances.

It features Usman praising the way Masvidal handled being confronted by Leon Edwards backstage at UFC London in March, where he dealt out the infamous “three piece and a soda” to the Briton.

“Masvidal don’t give a f***,” Usman said on UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s podcast, the JRE MMA Show. “I think it’s mutual respect for me and Masvidal.”

The video also features brief clips of Usman saying “I like Masvidal” and “Jorge has really been putting in work for a long, long time”.

There’s also a clip of Usman standing with his mouth wide open in amazement after watching Masvidal’s five-second, flying knee knockout of Askren live in the T-Mobile Arena audience in July.

The video ends with two simple words: “That’s who.”
