ONE Championship: Wondergirl Fairtex breaks KC Carlos’ nose to go 2-0 in Super Series

Wondergirl Fairtex continued her excellent start to life in ONE Championship’s Super Series, breaking KC Carlos’ nose en route to another quick TKO at A New Breed in Bangkok on Friday night.

The 21-year-old Thai phenom (34-16-2) only made her ONE strawweight Muay Thai debut last month in the capital of her home country, beating Australia’s Brooke Farrell by first-round TKO.

Filipino-American KC Carlos (17-12-1), who was raised in Texas and trains out of Phuket Top Team, hung in there through the first round, but couldn’t handle the speed and volume from Wondergirl when the fight resumed.

Wondergirl said she was “nervous” but didn’t look it, putting combinations together in bunches and coming through Carlos’ defence with some beautiful line punches and uppercut elbows to the nose, which eventually led to a doctor stoppage and her 35th professional win.

“Yeah that was really bad but I had to, it’s a combat sport, I hope she will be OK,” Wondergirl told SCMP MMA of her opponent’s injury.

“She defended my punches really good today, clinching me a lot. She did really good, but I used my elbow for clinching.”

Wondergirl said she’s open to fighting “anyone” anywhere, though ONE is set to depart Bangkok for Shanghai next month.

“For now I don’t know if the events will still happen in Thailand,” she said. “I can face anyone, it depends on Mr Chatri [Sityodtong, ONE CEO].

“For my fans, thank you every much for always supporting me, I appreciate it. I’ll keep working hard every day as much as I can, and keep improving myself.”
