Thirteen-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida finally looks set to make his ONE Championship debut.

Heavyweight Almeida will reportedly take on Senegalese wrestling sensation Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane (1-0) on February 24 in Singapore, according to Raphael Marino of Brazilian outlet Combate.

The card is headlined by American legend “Mighty Mouse” Demetrious Johnson (27-3-1) challenging flyweight champ Adriano Moraes (18-3) in Singapore.

There has been no confirmation of the bout from ONE, nor an announcement that Kane is under contract with the Singapore-based martial arts organisation.

But “Buchecha” – who trains out of American Kickboxing Academy with UFC legend Daniel Cormier – signed with ONE this summer to bolster its heavyweight division.

The 28-year-old Kane made his MMA debut a year ago in Ares Fighting Championship with a second-round TKO of former cage Warriors heavyweight contender Sofiane Boukichou (6-4) of France.

Kane became an instant fan favourite in MMA social media circles after his impressive win, and was set to fight Russian veteran Ivan Romanov in April in his second bout.

But the whole Ares 2 event was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I’ve felt very happy after fighting and winning on my mixed martial arts debut”, Kane told BJPenn.com in June. “But as my manager always says, we have lots of things in front of us.

“It was nice to win, though, especially at home, in front of my people.”
