Three fighters failed to pass weight and hydration checks on Thursday afternoon ahead of Friday night’s ONE Championship 162 card in Kuala Lumpur.

Tagir Khalilov, Constantin Rusu and Gustavo Balart are no longer eligible to make their contracted weight. They now have until 5pm local time to pass hydration and negotiate a new catchweight with their opponents. Marks of 1.0250 or lower are required to pass hydration.

The main event for ONE’s first event in Malaysia in nearly three years is safe, at least.

China’s Zhang Peimian and Canada’s Jonathan Di Bella both hit the mark ahead of their strawweight kickboxing world title fight at Axiata Arena, where the division’s inaugural champ will be crowned.

But three other fights are in danger of falling off the event.

Rusu’s lightweight kickboxing clash on the main card against Islam Murtasaev is one of those bouts at risk.

On their first attempts during the three-hour testing window, Moldova’s Rusu failed hydration (1.0317), while Russia’s Murtasaev came in heavy at 170.5lbs.

Murtasaev came back and made weight with one hour and five minutes to go. Rusu returned with 25 minutes left and failed hydration again (1.0288).

Thailand’s Yodkaikaew Fairtex (1.0295) also failed to pass hydration at the first attempt for his flyweight MMA bout against Eko Roni Saputra. But he later came back with 43 minutes remaining and passed, before making weight.

Khalilov and Balart were both unable to produce samples in the first hour.

Russia’s Khalilov came in after 90 minutes, but failed hydration (1.0331) for his flyweight Muay Thai bout against Denis Buric. He failed again (1.0341) on a second attempt with eight minutes remaining.

Cuba’s Balart finally in to give sample after two hours and seven minutes, but failed hydration (1.0320) for his strawweight MMA clash against Alex Silva.

Balart asked ONE senior director of competition Ric Auty, who was conducting the tests, if he passed.

“Fail. Very badly. Not good at all. Terrible,” Auty said. Balart then did an unofficial weigh in, tipping the scales at 124.75lbs.

Here is a full rundown of all of Thursday afternoon’s checks.
