Powerlifter Chen Wei-ling breaks the world record

Taiwan’s tiny Olympic weightlifter Chen Wei-ling set a new world record by squatting 210kg, then had to be carried away by her coach at the World Open Powerlifting Championships in Orlando Florida.

The diminutive powerhouse, who won bronze at the Beijing Olympics, is only 1.49m tall and weighs 46.75kg.

Chen could barely get the bending bar on her back and had to re-rack it three times, but still outlifted the next highest weight class by 15kg. She had only three seconds left on the timer when she finally managed the lift.

She added a 105kg bench press and 175kg deadlift, for a second world record of 500kg.

It was the 34-year-old’s sixth first-place finish at the event.
