Hong Kong have fallen agonisingly short in the diamond division final at the women’s lacrosse World Cup, going down to Latvia 10-9 in an action-packed clash in England.

The loss sees Travis Taylor’s side finish 18th overall in the 25-team tournament, the exact same result as in 2013 when 19 teams took part in the showpiece event, however this time Hong Kong posted four wins after only two four years ago.

Hong Kong fought back from 10-6 down through goals to Katherine Barker, Jackie Keung Hoi-kay and Tang Yi-ting to ensure a thrilling finish, however time ran out before they could find an equaliser.

Barker was one of Hong Kong’s best with three goals and three assists, while Tang and Hui Ka-hei scored twice. Carrie Lam Ka-wai also scored for Hong Kong.
