Chinese Muay Thai fighter Gou Dakui knocks out opponent ... and the referee
- Chinese fighter Gou Dakui inadvertently knocks out the referee before scoring a second-round TKO
- Gou declared the winner after initial confusion as incident leaves crowd shocked
Just when you thought you have seen it all, another incident in the ring tops it all. Chinese Muay Thai fighter Gou Dakui got more than he bargained for when he knocked out both his opponent and the referee at the same time in Pattaya, Thailand on Saturday night.
Gou was expected to batter Thailand’s Super X Sitsontidech but there was a surprise sting to the tale at the Max Muay Thai fightcard after the Chinese fighter inadvertently knocked out the referee with a head kick to the face, sending the official crashing to the canvas. The referee had stepped in probably to protect Super X just after he was stunned by a right hook in the second round.
But just as the Thai backed up against the ropes, the referee got in the line of fire and Gou swung his leg and caught the referee square on the face. The referee fell to the canvas before Super X joined him to the floor with both writhing in pain to the amazement of the crowd ... and TV commentators who couldn’t believe what they were seeing.
“On my God, the referee got kicked, the referee got knocked down!” said one of the TV commentators. “Oh no, that is something I have never seen in over 30 years of watching Muay Thai. Another referee has come in to help out the referee. Just when I thought I’ve seen it all in all my Muay Thai career.”
Gou ran to both his opponent and the referee to offer his apologies but the incident was clearly unintentional. After some initial confusion, another referee stepped into the ring to call the fight over after Super X was unable to continue the fight.
Victory improved Gou’s record to 21-9 while Super X dropped to 60-32 having been knocked out by his previous four opponents before facing Gou.
