Juan Imhoff scored a hat-trick of tries as Argentina upset South Africa 37-25 in Durban on Saturday in the final match of this year's Rugby Championship.

It was the Pumas’ first victory over the Springboks in 20 attempts after 18 losses and a draw since the countries first met 22 years ago.

The Springboks, who will have plenty of soul-searching to do ahead of next month’s Rugby World Cup in England, were sloppy and disjointed against an Argentina side more intelligent in their execution and dominant in every facet of the game.

Centre Marcelo Bosch scored Argentina’s other try, earning a bonus point, and added a long-range penalty and a drop goal, with experienced fly-half Juan Martin Hernandez landing four conversions and a penalty in his first test outing of the year.

South Africa scored tries through lock Lood de Jager, fullback Willie le Roux and wing Bryan Habana, with out-of-sorts fly-half Handre Pollard kicking two penalties and two conversions.
