China may be desperate to create a ‘soccer empire’, but their short-term woes continue as they lost 1-0 to 10-man Kazakhstan in a friendly in Dalian.
It was the first loss under Gao Hongbo’s second spell in charge as his side paid the price for wasting chances.
The match was somewhat overshadowed by a horrific injury to Kazakhstan’s Konysbayev Ulan that left the visitors furious with China defender Ren Hang.
“I am very disappointed at this result, we made some changes to our tactics, but I am not satisfied. Our coaching staff should be responsible for the loss,” Xinhua quote Gao as saying.
Gao fielded a much-changed team to that which beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-2 on Frieday, with teenager Zhang Yuning, who scored twice in that match, on the bench.
Though they dominated the game, they couldn’t find the net and Kazakhstan made them payin the 67th minute when substitute Nurgaliyev Azat headed in.
