Guangzhou Evergrande came within inches of pulling off one of the great AFC Champions League comebacks on Tuesday night, going down to Shanghai SIPG 5-4 on penalties after an epic encounter.

Hulk and Oscar were among those on target for the victors in the shoot-out after extra time finished with Evergrande in front 5-1 and the tie locked at 5-5 on aggregate, with the home side overhauling a 4-0 deficit from the opening leg of the tie.

Shanghai will take on either the Urawa Reds or Kawasaki Frontale in the semi-finals, with the Japanese pair meeting on Wednesday.

There was drama throughout a match that saw Evergrande lead 4-0 heading into an action-packed extra time which featured a goal to each side and two red cards to Shanghai.
