“If you can dream it, you can do it.” Walt Disney’s famous words don’t seem to be resonating with young people in Hong Kong today. In a recent survey of nearly 1,100 people aged 18 to 30, 55 per cent said they do not have a dream or are still seeking one. In another, four in five Hong Kong teenagers do not know how to achieve their goals or lack confidence in their abilities.
It’s sad to see; with a lack of direction, young people in Hong Kong are more vulnerable to high-risk behaviour.

Youth engagement is crucial to support the development and well-being of a community. Yet, living in a city like Hong Kong, where success is largely determined by hierarchy, experience and age, the role of young people in creating a positive impact for the community is too often ignored.
Hong Kong's equation for success places much emphasis on "traditional", well-paid careers such as in law and medicine. However, we often forget that some young people here do not have access to the network and...

I often hear people say that Hong Kong's drug problem is "nowhere near as bad" as other places in the world. It may be true that we seldom hear about overdoses, have an open debate about legalising drugs and, overall, see very few high-profile drug trafficking cases in Hong Kong.
With under 1 per cent of the population reported by the Central Registry of Drug Abuse to be drug abusers - 8,926 people out of more than 7 million - Hong Kong's "problem" appears to be a grain of salt.

According to the United Nations, each year, 20 per cent of the world's youth population experiences a mental health condition. With 1.2 billion young people aged 15 to 24 worldwide, that means some 240 million are experiencing conditions such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
In Hong Kong, in the past year, the media and research have highlighted alarming facts about mental health among the younger generation. A regional poll by Junior Chamber International found that...
