China’s ongoing heatwave has claimed another victim: the sea cucumber.
The slimy creature is prized in Chinese cuisine for its unique texture.
But with waters warming, the sea cucumbers being farmed in northeast China’s Liaoning province couldn’t handle the heat.
Some 75,000 tons of sea cucumbers have been claimed by the heatwave, at an estimated cost of $1 billion.

Torrential rain has caused flooding and transport chaos across China.
In southwest China’s Sichuan province, more than 100,000 people have been affected and 2,000 residents have been forced to evacuate their homes as heavy rain caused floods and landslides.
One of the main rail lines in western China, the Baoji-Chengdu railway, has also been affected, leading to days of suspended service.
It's a battle to get the trains running before the rains return.

The annual chili festival in central China’s Hunan province kicked off this Monday.
The spice-loving residents of Hunan celebrated the event with a chili eating competition.
Ten contestants raced each other to finish a plate of 50 Tabasco peppers.
The winner beat the heat to emerge in just 68 seconds.
"He finished them at an amazing speed, barely after the emcee had finished speaking," said festival worker Sun Minying.
The winner took home a gold coin weighing a tenth of an ounce.

Archaeologists working in China’s central Henan province have discovered a tomb complex dating back to the Spring and Autumn period (770-476 BC) – roughly the same time as the founding of Ancient Rome.
Around 500 burial objects were found, with bronzeware, pottery and jade trinkets all indicating that the owner of the tomb was a Chinese nobleman.
