When Katja Vogt considers a Jaguar, she pictures a British-made car purring confidently along the Italian coastline – a vision of familiarity that conveys “that dreaming, longing feeling we all love.”
She’s not sure what to think about Jaguar now after the 89-year-old company announced a radical rebranding this week that featured loud colours and androgynous people – but no cars. Jaguar, the company says, will now be JaGUar. It will produce only electric vehicles beginning in 2026.

Ratan Tata, the former Tata Group chairman who put a staid and sprawling Indian conglomerate on the global stage with a string of high-profile acquisitions, has died, the Tata Group said in a statement late on Wednesday. He was 86.
Tata, who ran the conglomerate for more than 20 years as chairman, had been undergoing intensive care in a Mumbai hospital, two sources with direct knowledge of his medical situation said earlier on Wednesday.

Almost a decade after playing home to Europe’s first mass-produced electric car, the UK is at risk of becoming a footnote in the global auto industry’s shift to battery-powered vehicles.

In what could be a fresh blow to British carmaking, the country’s top auto manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover, is in talks with Northvolt and SVolt Energy Technology about supplying...

Sitting around a Sunday afternoon lunch table with a few cans of beer under the belt is a natural forum for entrepreneurs to air ideas of what we are likely to do next. Such was the case about a year ago when I sat with two new friends who hail from Switzerland and found themselves in South Lantau: Töni Sigg and Urs Stemmler.
One thing we have in common, like many guys of our age, is a love of fancy cars – Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, etc – and Urs has even taken the plunge with a 1980s’ era...

However, the marque’s endurance-winning technology is also on Gloucester Road, according to Porsche Centre Hong Kong and Macau spokeswoman Jess Lam.

When is an SUV not an SUV? When it’s the “ultimate practical sports car”, that’s when. When it’s a sports car that miraculously enjoys the countryside so much it likes to venture off-road; and when it’s a sports car that can comfortably seat five adults of regular dimensions.
Jaguar might tell you all this – that “ultimate practical sports car” legend is part of its marketing thrust – but if the company thinks its F-Pace filly can steal sales from its rivals through the back door, by pretending...

Retro car is probably a misnomer: they may have links to the original in terms of either its manufacturer, or because it resembles a long-lost cousin; however, it is usually based on a model already within the carmaker's line-up. Nevertheless, the attraction is indisputable. A small number of so-called retro cars have appeared on the roads in recent years in large numbers.
The first leaning towards a retro model was probably the Volkswagen Beetle, introduced at the Detroit motor show in 1998....

Classic European cars are lined up at the InterContinental hotel yesterday before a 10-day 2,500km rally across southern China.

The old world was set to meet the new as 20 Jaguar, Austin Healey, Bugatti and Rolls-Royce cars built between 1930 and 1965 left for Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Guilin - the first time most would have been seen there.

Co-ordinator Cyril Codron, 49, said organising the event, which took a year, had been surprisingly trouble-free. The idea for using the mainland for...

Jaguar have an excellent racing pedigree in other motorsports but only got involved with F1 in 2000, born of Stewart Grand Prix which was set up by Britain's most successful racing driver, former multiple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, and his son Paul.

The drivers in that first season were Rubens Barrichello and Dane Jan Magnussen.

Managing director David Pitchforth and chief executive Tony Purnell have done much to transform the team into a leaner and meaner racing machine with a...

I refer to the letter headlined 'How to deal with smoky vehicles' (January 3).

I believe that the enforcement actions taken by both the transport and environmental protection departments are quite similar. However, in the case of the EPD, the identification of a polluting vehicle is somewhat more clear-cut. When a smoky vehicle is reported, the EPD will require it to undergo an exhaust emissions test. If a vehicle repeatedly fails this test it will be subject to deregistration.

A case of a...

Luxury car manufacturer Jaguar estimates sales in Hong Kong will fall by at least 100 units this year compared with last year's 240, the company said yesterday as it unveiled its S-type sports saloon.

Despite the fall, the British company had already received orders for six of the $600,000 S-types at a private unveiling in Hong Kong last week.

The car was launched a week ago at the Birmingham International Motor Show in England, and Hong Kong was its first Asian destination.

There were 18,100 vehicle sales from January through May, against 20,000 last year for the same period. Not bad, when you consider how miserably the property and stock markets have fared.
