Hong Kong Women’s Ice Hockey League
With the growing popularity of women ice hockey in Hong Kong, it’s not hard to see female ice hockey players gather at the rink for games on a regular weeknight. The Hong Kong Women’s Ice Hockey League (HKWIHL) is the first ever international rules complied women’s league to be hosted in Hong Kong in 2013.

With the growing popularity of women ice hockey in Hong Kong, it’s not hard to see female ice hockey players gather at the rink for games on a regular weeknight. The Hong Kong Women’s Ice Hockey League (HKWIHL) is the first ever international rules complied women’s league to be hosted in Hong Kong in 2013. The HKWIHL is one of the few local sports events catering for women as participants and audience. The image of “empowerment to women” is projected in the competition. With Women’s ice hockey gaining popularity in Asia in the recent years, the HKWIHL caters to many interested female players who are looking for opportunities to play in an all girls ice hockey league in Hong Kong. The League games will be held at Mega Ice, Kowloon Bay from October 2014 to April 2015. The League is, sanctioned by the Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association (HKIHA), and co-organised by the Women’s Ice Hockey Organization (WIHO) and Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club (HKAHC). The drop puck ceremony for the 2014-15 season was held on October 10 with Teams Cagliari and Chicco present. This year there are 3 teams with some new players joining the league. Returning team sponsors are Chicco and Gaggia with new team sponsor Cagliari joining the league this year.
Michael Chen, team sponsor of Gaggia in the 2013-14 season, returned this year with sponsorship for a second team, Cagliari, in the 2014-15 season. “We hope to build awareness for our brand through sponsoring the women’s league, we believe the ice hockey community is a suitable market for us to explore. Sponsoring the women’s league is a way for us to give back to the community and to show our support in women’s sports. I hope by giving our support, the women’s league can create more interest and awareness for women’s ice hockey in Hong Kong.”
