Manager Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea should contest captain John Terry’s red card from the 3-2 win at West Brom but admits an appeal would probably be “a waste of time”.

Mourinho appeared to be unhappy with the dismissal of his skipper for a foul on Salomon Rondon nine minutes into the second half at The Hawthorns a week after he was substituted at Manchester City.

But Mourinho hinted an appeal to the FA to have the sending-off overturned was unlikely after several failed appeals by Chelsea in the last year.

“Normally, it’s a waste of time for us,” said Mourinho. “I think we should [appeal], but normally it’s a waste of time.

Terry’s dismissal by referee Mark Clattenburg meant the 34-year-old had failed to complete successive Premier League games for the first time in 17 years and 462 appearances.

He was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity when he was adjudged to have dragged down Albion’s record signing Rondon on 54 minutes.
