I want more than nine lives, purrs Manuel Pellegrini as Manchester City match club's record win streak

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is looking for his in-form side to continue to show the consistency needed to win back the Premier League title after they equalled a club record run of nine consecutive league wins.

Since losing to 4-2 big rivals Manchester United in April, City have proved unstoppable.

And while their late run last season was not enough to prevent Chelsea from winning the league, City are top of the table three games into the current campaign after a 2-0 success at Everton equalled a club best last set in 1912.

After watching goals from Aleksandar Kolarov and Samir Nasri give City only a second win in seven attempts at Goodison Park, Pellegrini said: “I knew about that [the record]. It is important that we have nine points this season and also finished last season playing very well because it is not easy to win six games in a row.

“We are continuing the way we finished last season. If you want to win silverware you have to be consistent.

“The important thing is to be a consistent team until the end. That is why it was important to win here because Everton are a very difficult team.”

“It is so difficult to compare teams. It is my third season here in this team. In my first we won both the Premier League and the League Cup and we were the highest scoring team in the history of the competition.

“The important thing is that we are in a new season, that we started playing well in three games and we can score goals in every game and that is why we have scored eight goals and have three clean sheets.
