Although they were unable to play the second game, coach Simon Cook is happy to claim the series after Hong Kong had previously lost the four-day Intercontinental Cup against Ireland.

“You take the result and we played good cricket in the first game. That’s what we will focus on rather than the series victory and taking that forward into the games against Scotland,” said Cook. “We spoke about what we want to try and improve on from the first T20 which was our fielding. So we want better commitment in the field for those matches.”

“It’s another opportunity for us to play against quality opposition on a different surface in a one-day series.

“Against Scotland having the Braidwood Cup does add another dimension to the series and we hope the relationship we are building with them can allow us to play against each other more often.

“It will be an interesting series – Scotland will want to get us back for earlier in the year in Hong Kong and we want to get a bit back for our World T20 loss to them – hopefully the weather will hold and we will get some good cricket in.”

Hong Kong hosted Scotland in the inaugural Braidwood Cup in January but the series was severely affected by bad weather. They play two 50-over matches against the Scots, on Thursday and Saturday.

Batsman Nizakat Khan was named player of the series for the T20 games because of his 62 off 43 balls in the first match.

Nizakat also hit a century in the second innings of the four-day game against the Irish.

He hopes to hit another ton against the Scots, who will start as favourites by virtue of being at home.

“I think the last week has been memorable for me. Since I came from the camp the whole team has felt really good,” said Nizakat.

“I just loving playing for Hong Kong and I’m seriously proud to have done this for my teammates and everyone back home.

“My goal is to improve and score a 100 against Scotland.”
