South China put faith in former coach of the year Dejan Antonic to rescue their season
The ex-Instant-Dict player replaces Ricardo Rambo as the Caroliners look to recover from a series of defeats
Former Kitchee coach Dejan Antonic was yesterday appointed South China head coach in an attempt to revive the Caroliners after they suffered a series of defeats.
Club convenor Cheung Kwong-yung praised the Serbian for his vast experience in Hong Kong soccer as a player and coach. Antonic, 47, first came to Hong Kong to play for Instant-Dict in 1998 and started his coaching career with Kitchee in 2005 after spending two years with the club as a player.
He won the coach of the year award the following year. Antonic was also appointed Hong Kong team coach in preparation for the 2011 Asian Cup qualifiers and was with Indonesian side Persib Bandung before returning to the city.
South China suffered a humiliating 4-2 loss in the Premier League to bottom team Rangers last week, resulting in head coach Ricardo Rambo losing his job. They were also eliminated from the Senior Shield over the weekend after a 1-0 loss to Tai Po.
