Watch: Local soccer fans chant ‘We are Hong Kong!’ during China national anthem before EAFF game against North Korea

Supporters risk punishment from world governing body Fifa of being banned from future games

A large sections of fans chanted “We are Hong Kong” during the China national anthem before kick-off in the home side’s EAFF Championship clash against North Korea at the Mong Kok Stadium on Saturday night.

Hong Kong fans had been warned previously for booing during the anthem, especially during World Cup qualifying matches at home, one of which featured the China team.

Despite warnings from world governing body Fifa and pleas from the Hong Kong Football Association, fans are refusing to budge and broke into a loud chant with intermittent clapping before the North Korea game.
