Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer joins Tillakaratne Dilshan in City Kaitak Hong Kong T20 Blitz squad

He signs up as their association member representative and will play alongside Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan

Kyle Coetzer, the Scotland captain who recently helped his team defeat Hong Kong in the Desert T20 tournament, will play for City Kaitak squad in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz scheduled for 8-12 March 2017.

Coetzer will join Sri Lankan ace Tillakaratne Dilshan in the squad who will be coached by former Indian international Robin Singh.

“I would like to thank City Kaitak for the opportunity to take part in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz with City Kaitak team. I am looking forward to meeting all the players and staff in Hong Kong and putting on the yellow shirt of City Kaitak,” said Coetzer.

Coetzer has represented Scotland at all levels and achieved fame in 2015 when he struck their first hundred in the World Cup – scoring 156 against Bangladesh – the highest score ever made by a batsman from an associate nation.

In the same year, he scored 333 runs at 55.50 apiece on the World Cup acclimatisation tour, the highest tally for any player in the World Cup qualifiers, and finished as Scotland’s leading run-scorer with 253 runs at the scoring rate of 42.16.

“Considering the ground conditions, we have found in Coetzer the talent that would complement the strengths of our domestic selection. He has recently played Desert T20 with many of them and is familiar with the playing styles of Hong Kong national team players,” said a City Kaitak spokesman.

“With Dilshan as our leading overseas player and Coetzer leading the representation from associate nations along with our talented young domestic squad, we are trying to achieve a good balance in the team.”
