Stephanie Norton and Ma Kwan-ching etched their names into Hong Kong sporting history after winning the city’s first ever Asian Games sailing silver medals, while windsurfer Chen Ching-ying claimed bronze for more success on the water.
There was surprise joy in the velodrome, too, where Hong Kong’s team pursuit quartet of Ceci Lee Sze-wing, Boey Leung Bo-yee, Chloe Leung Wing-yee, and Yang Qianyu beat the favourites South Korea to the bronze.
The weather gods shone on the trio of Norton, Ma and Cheng, with conditions forcing the cancellation of several water sports events on Wednesday.
The Hongkongers gained their rewards for fast starts to their respective competitions, when medals were distributed based on the standings after previous matches.
Norton won her silver in the women’s single dinghy class, while Ma was second in the women’s windsurfing iQFoil.
Cheng, whose bronze came in the men’s windsurfing iQFoil, said: “Maybe you could say I had a bit of luck, but from my perspective I did well the past few days.
