Jeremy Lin has praised NBA legend Dwyane Wade for speaking out against the growing attacks on the Asian-American Pacific Islander community in the US in his role as an NBA pundit.
“[Kyle Korver and Dwyane Wade] making good points about Asians feeling invisible and that we all are seeking to live in peace and without fear,” Lin wrote on Twitter, also praising 17-year NBA veteran and fellow pundit Kyle Korver.
“Thank you to these brothers for always seeking to understand the struggles of people different from themselves.”
Lin, who is currently looking for a new NBA team as a free agent, shared a video with Wade working in his role as a pundit on NBA on TNT’s Postgame Show on Friday (US time) alongside Korver.

“A few weeks ago on my social media I put up a post and I had some words and I joined the stop Asian Hate hashtag,” Wade began. 
“I started thinking about that and I started think about how many people do I know that have real relationships with people in the Asian community. I do.”

Wade then listed a number of Asians that he knows, including former Chinese Olympian Li Ning. Li is the owner of the eponymous footwear brand that Wade signed a lifetime deal with.
“I think of these people I know personally and I know their families personally and for me this is about right versus wrong.
“It’s wrong to target our fellow Asian brothers and sisters. It’s wrong to target them with jokes. It’s wrong to target them with anything that can hurt and harm them.

“It’s about standing up for what’s right and what’s right is making sure that racist jokes and racist dialogue is not something that you allow in your space.
“It’s not enough just to put a post up. We have to step in, we have to say something.
Wade then read from a pre-written speech.

“In this world we live in if you don’t know someone then you feel like that’s not my fight because I don’t know them. Well to me our fight in this world is about safety, it’s about peace, it’s the ability to want to live life without fear.
“That’s all we want. We want safety, peace and to live without fear. That’s all of our fight.
“It shouldn’t just be the Asian-American community fight, it should be all of our fight and it’s time for us to continue to use our platforms and our voices to speak up and speak out and do something about it.”

Lin has spoken up about the rise in Covid-19 fuelled racism against the AAPI community in the US and praised athletes who have spoken out.
The 32-year-old tweeted his thanks to Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard for wearing a “Stop Asian Hate” T-shirt on the bench in a recent NBA game. 
Korver, who is also available as an NBA free agent like Lin, spoke up on the TNT show too.


“I think these are important conversations to be having,” he said. “I think Asian-Americans have mostly felt unseen for a really long time. These crimes we are seeing now, many of us for the first time, they’ve been happening for a long time.
“Literally Asian-Americans do not feel seen, their problems do not feel seen but they’re a significant part of our country – 23 million people.
“For us to keep on ignoring them? This is another issue that we have to tackle, that we have to be aware of and that we have to have conversations about.”
