Former NBA star Jeremy Lin watched his Beijing Ducks teammates for the first time this Chinese Basketball Association season ahead of his impending return to the court.

The Ducks lost 105-86 to the Shanghai Sharks in the CBA on Sunday with Lin and injured teammate Fang Shuo looking on from the sidelines alongside team owner Qin Xiaowen.

Lin has only just arrived in the CBA bubble in Zhuji, Zhejiang province, where the first part of the season is being played until November 14.

The NBA champion also posted photographs of his reunion with teammates on Saturday. “I was so excited to see everyone training with the team on the first day!” Lin wrote on China’s Twitter-like Weibo.

Lin, 33, had announced his return to the CBA bubble on social media on Friday.

“Thank you Shanghai! I stayed for three months, learned a lot of Shanghai culture, and did a lot of things, but I finally set off to Zhuji.

“I had a lot of happy things in Shanghai, such as seeing my good friend [Vanness Wu] and [MC Jin], eating a lot of delicious dumplings, Sichuan food and hotpot, visiting Tianzifang and the Bund, and training every day! See you next time.”

Lin also posted on his Instagram ahead of his return to the Ducks.

“I‘m headed to ZhuJi for the first CBA bubble,” he wrote. “The CBA season is divided into 3 segments, the first segment ends 11/14 and the Beijing Ducks are currently 5-1. Excited to keep ramping up my body and workload.”

Chinese media reported that Lin could soon make his long awaited return to action with the Ducks, possibly as early as this month.

After re-signing for the CBA team, Lin arrived back in China in August but tested positive for Covid-19 and had to undergo treatment in hospital.

He was discharged in early September but stayed in Shanghai until he moved to Zhuji this weekend.

Lin previously played for the Ducks in the 2019-20 season, taking them to the CBA play-offs semi-finals, before returning to the US in an effort to make an NBA comeback.

After starring for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League, Lin missed out on an NBA offer and chose to return to China. Sunday’s defeat to the Sharks took the Ducks to 5-2 for the season.
