The youngest son of the late Macau casino magnate Stanley Ho Hung-sun has become one of the co-owners of American basketball team the Boston Celtics.

Mario Ho Yau-kwan has joined a new ownership group at the Celtics – the NBA competition’s most successful team, with 18 championships.

Ho Jnr was part of a consortium led by American private equity executive William Chisholm, who tabled a US$6.1 billion (HK$47.6 billion) bid earlier this year to acquire the Eastern Conference team.

“Thank you Bill [Chisholm] for letting me join the consortium and this record-breaking deal,” Ho said on social media.

“As a lifelong Celtics fan, I’ll continue to give my everything to the organisation; the responsibilities officially start now!” he added. “This is undoubtedly one of the happiest moments of my life.”

A graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ho, who married Chinese supermodel Ming Xi Mengyao in 2019, was not involved in his late father’s gaming empire, SJM Holdings, but leads NIP Group, an esports firm listed on the Nasdaq in July last year.
