Rex Tso Sing-yu’s next fight against Australia’s two-time Olympian Brad Hore will not be broadcast on TV after talks fell through.

Organisers of the sold-out August 29 bout at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre were hoping for a first-ever local pay-per-view event on broadcasters NOW TV, but the idea has been put on the backburner.

“The idea of pay-per-view was mooted, but it will be too expensive to hire a production crew. They were worried about our production wouldn’t be good enough so they wanted us to hire their production crew but we refused,” said Tso’s manager and trainer, Jay Lau Chi-yuen, who revealed that it will cost about HK$1 million to stage “Night of Champions II”.

Trainer Jake Verano puts Rex Tso through his paces at training in Sheung Wan on Sunday.

“So the event will not be broadcast on TV. It’s not going to happen.”

Tso will fight in front of a capacity crowd of 1,800 spectators after tickets for “Night of Champions II” sold out within one week of tickets going on sale.

Tso’s final preparation for his 18th professional fight – he has an unblemished record of 17-0-0 – was going “great” according to Lau.

“He was sparring very hard for 10 rounds on Friday. That was his final sparring session. He’s now going to cut down on his weight [to below 115 pounds]. His conditioning is very good and he’s really ready to fight,” said Lau.
