Manny Pacquiao and Jack Ma share a glass of wine as two meet up in Hong Kong

Manny Pacquiao has been busy toasting his latest victory in the boxing ring, and there are few better ways of doing it than sharing a glass of wine with Jack Ma.

Following Pacquiao’s victory against Adrien Broner in Las Vegas, the Filipino boxing icon and his wife, Jinkee, were in Hong Kong for a quick weekend break.

And the pair met Alibaba chairman Ma, chairman of e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, which owns the South China Morning Post.

The Pacquiaos sat down for a drink with 54-year-old Ma in a harbourfront hotel before heading to the airport on their way back to Manila.

The couple were returning home to celebrate the first anniversary of National Bible Day, a Filipino public holiday.

“It was a pleasure meeting with Jack Ma, the co-founder and executive chairman of Alibaba,” Pacquiao wrote alongside a picture on Instagram of the two raising a glass.

Ma clearly made a great impression on Jinkee, too.

“We are happy to meet you Jack Ma,” Jinkee wrote in an Instagram post uploaded from the Plaza Premium Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport. “Continue to inspire people. God bless you!”

She also described Ma as “humble”, “determined”, “kindhearted”, “down to earth” and an “inspiration” in a series of hashtags.

Ma, China’s richest man with a net worth of nearly US$38 billion, is handing over the Alibaba reins in a 12-month succession plan.

Pacquiao had already returned to Manila on January 24 after retaining his WBA regular welterweight title against American Broner in January 19.

But he had stopped off in Los Angeles first to take in an NBA game at the Staples Center, where he met Golden State Warriors stars Stephen Curry, Andre Iguadola and Kevin Durant.

The Philippines senator also bumped into Floyd Mayweather, who was sitting courtside, fuelling speculation a lucrative rematch between the two is on the cards.

Pacquiao has a home in the Californian city, but it was reportedly burgled while he was away in Las Vegas.
