Chomping cheaters: boxer Kash Ali the latest to be punished for biting his opponent
- British heavyweight is banned for six months and fined £10,000 for biting David Price during fight
- Mike Tyson will always be remembered for chewing off Evander Holyfield’s ear in their title bout

British boxer Kash Ali has become the latest athlete to achieve notoriety for biting his opponent in another incident that saw fighters use their teeth as additional weapons.
Ali (15-1-0, 7 KOs) was disqualified during his heavyweight fight last month in Liverpool against David Price (24-6-0, 19 KOs) and apart from being lambasted for his indecent act – a bite mark just above the waist was clearly visible when the fighters were pulled apart – Ali was handed a six-month ban and fined £10,000 (HK$101,300).
The 27-year-old Birmingham native was quick to apologise for his “unacceptable behaviour” in a statement, saying he was sorry to “all boxing, fans, to my team, my family, the British Boxing Board, David Price, his team and his family”.
Ali’s shameful act drew condemnation from all quarters, not least from former British world cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew who said Ali was “a disgrace”.
“He [Ali] shouldn’t be allowed back in a boxing ring ever again. He should not be paid for the fight – give the money to grass-roots boxing and help develop amateur boxing. Biting a man when he’s on the floor… there aren’t many things lower.”
