The social media war of words between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather escalated on Wednesday, sparking speculation on what would be a monumental rematch.
Retired US boxer Mayweather kicked off the dispute by saying Pacquiao had built his “entire career and legacy” off “its association with my name”.
The Filipino icon didn’t take too kindly to that suggestion.
“You come to my fight and then use my name in a post but I’m the one that is trying to stay relevant? If you want to be relevant again … #MayPac2” tweeted Pacquiao.

The eight-time division world champion showed he’s still got it at the age of 40 after claiming the WBA super welterweight title on Saturday night with a split decision win over Keith Thurman in Las Vegas.
It appears he might fight again in 2019, with British boxer Amir Khan suggesting talks were ongoing between his camp and Pacquiao’s for a possible fight in the Middle East in November or December.

“Pacman”, however, said he will not fight again until next year as he would be too busy working. He returned to Manila by private jet straight after the post-fight press conference to resume his duties in the Filipino senate.
He and Mayweather could be laying the foundations for a mega-money rematch of their 2015 super fight, which the American won by unanimous decision.
Pacquiao claimed a torn rotator cuff suffered in sparring three weeks before the fight hampered his performance that night, and he has gone on to win five of his six subsequent fights while Mayweather has twice come out of retirement.

The 42-year-old took his professional record to 50-0 (27 KOs) with a 10th-round stoppage in a much-hyped boxing bout against MMA superstar Conor McGregor in 2017.
He then earned US$9 million for a 139-second destruction of Japanese kick-boxer Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve in an exhibition bout in Japan.
Mayweather was in Hong Kong last month to discuss taking part in a similar big-money exhibition fight in the city, but a Pacquiao rematch would be where the real money is.

“What’s Floyd got left? I’ve got no idea,” veteran boxing analyst Skip Bayless said on Fox Sports television show Undisputed. “Would Floyd take this fight, would he just do it for the money? He probably would.”
Bayless tweeted from ringside in Vegas that Mayweather “would want none” of Pacquiao right now and “would get hurt” if they fought again.
“He looked 10 years younger than age 40,” Bayless said. “That Manny looked as quick and powerful and explosive as I’ve seen him look since pre-Floyd Mayweather fight, more than four years ago.

“I’ve never seen him in better shape. I don’t know how you get quick and faster and more explosive at age 40. He accomplished that.
“If a week ago you had asked me about the prospect of Manny at 40 fighting Floyd at 42 in a rematch I would have scoffed if not just outright laughed at it.
“I’m still holding a grudge over what happened, it sticks in my craw … He basically fought with one arm. And I still believe he beat Floyd just because he was the aggressor the whole fight.”
