Keith Thurman has warned Manny Pacquiao he “needs to tread lightly” when it comes to deciding his next opponent.
“One Time” reiterated his desire for a rematch with the fighting Filipino senator, who took his WBA welterweight title and handed him his first loss in July.
The 40-year-old has been linked to fights with fellow welterweight champions Terence Crawford, Shawn Porter and Errol Spence in 2020, but Mikey Garcia is reportedly in the frame – and Thurman thinks that would be an easy way out.
“You know what I want, I want that rematch, baby,” he told Fight Hub TV. “I think that’s not a bad opponent for Pacquiao. He has to tread lightly in this welterweight division, there are a lot of dogs in this division.


“He knows he was in a dogfight. Even though he stepped away with my belt, it’s OK, he knows he was in a dogfight.
“He wants to go up against more young dogs like Shawn Porter, Errol Spence, Keith Thurman rematch – I think every one of those are dangerous. So Mikey Garcia might be the least dangerous, and still respectable opponent, and still young strong and hungry.”

Thurman was also confident he would be able to switch up his game plan enough to defeat Pacquiao should they fight again.
“Maybe utilise a little bit of my movement more, set up some counters. He didn’t like my boxing,” the 30-year-old said. “Just head movements, small things I saw frustrate him.
“There were certain openings I didn’t take advantage of in the moment. If I had a second chance, I wouldn’t hesitate, aka there would be some uppercuts.”
