Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire has said that he has tested negative for Covid-19 just a day after his December 19 fight against Emmanuel Rodriguez was called off after a positive test result in midweek.

“We asked for a confirmatory test to make sure I was positive. They said NO. So I had to pay to get one done,” Donaire wrote on Twitter on Saturday with an image of a test showing a negative result.

The “Filipino Flash” was stood down from the fight on Thursday but he told a fan that he was still ready despite the test trouble.

“I sparred 12 rounds today. I‘m ready,” he wrote on Twitter.

Reymart Gaballo was reported to have been brought in to replace Donaire on the card on Friday, though there was no confirmation he would fight Rodriguez or if it would be for the WBC bantamweight belt.
