Filipino flyweight Irish Magno was soundly beaten by rising Thai Jutamas Jitpong in the last-16 on Thursday, handing the Philippines its first boxing loss of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Magno was outclassed by the smiling Jitpong who dominated the three-round contest from the first bell and comfortably took the win on a unanimous points decision.

For all her endeavour, Magno too often left herself open to the Thai’s deft counterpunching at the famed Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall.

Jitpong, who has a professional record of five wins and two losses, moves on to face Turkey’s Buse Naz Cakiroglu, a former European Games gold medallist, in the quarter-finals.
