Hong Kong’s Ruru Yang Sheau-ru will fight for the WBC Asia Super Flyweight crown next week in Thailand, where she could become the first female boxer from the city to win a regional title.

Yang will face off against Thailand’s Saowaluk Nareepangsri on April 27, and is stepping up in weight for the clash against the Thai super-flyweight champion.

While the 28-year-old admitted moving to a heavier weight class from her usual flyweight for a shot at a belt was a “bold move”, Yang said she was sure she would “get this done”.

And despite only having fought three times as a professional Yang said she was not worried about battling an opponent who has fought 37 times.

“I do not think one’s ability has anything to do with the number of fights he or she had,” Yang said. “Anyone strong enough is entitled to have a title shot.
