He’s here: Brazilian striker Hulk arrives in China ahead of expected record move to Shanghai SIPG
Hulk’s contract could be worth up to €55 million (HK$473.5 million), with the forward set to move from former Russian champion Zenit St. Petersburg
Brazilian forward Hulk is expected to join Shanghai SIPG in a deal local media are predicting could be a record for the Chinese Super League.
SIPG said more than 1,000 fans were at Shanghai’s international airport on Wednesday to welcome Hulk, who is set to move from former Russian champion Zenit St. Petersburg.
The club says Hulk will undergo a physical exam before signing a formal contract.
SIPG spokeswoman Yu Chen declined to confirm reports that Hulk’s contract could be worth up to €55 million (HK$473.5 million).
Chinese clubs spent a significant amount on foreign stars in the pre-season transfer window, strengthening rosters and increasing attendances.
The presence of big names from Europe and South America such as Ramires, Alex Teixeira, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Jackson Martinez and Gervinho also has boosted the league’s profile overseas.
